BUCO TYRE ASHTRAY

The BUCO TYRE ASHTRAY is a vintage-inspired novelty item featuring an EVA rubber tire and a removable acrylic-based resin tray. Tyre ashtrays became popular promotional tools for manufacturers, widely used from the early 1900s through the 1970s to advertise their products.
Initially, early tire ashtrays were narrow and modelled after the solid, non-pneumatic tires of the time. These designs typically included steel rims and brass inserts, which prominently displayed manufacturer or dealer names. As tire technology evolved, so did the ashtrays, becoming wider with more realistic embossed tread patterns and molded branding.
By the 1920s, brass inserts gave way to colorful glass, with options such as green, amber, red, and even Depression-era tones. These vibrant additions enhanced their visual appeal while maintaining their role as functional advertising items. During the 1930s and 1940s, tire companies distributed these ashtrays extensively as customer giveaways or souvenirs at prominent events, including world fairs and exhibitions.
Following World War II, tire ashtrays were typically standardized to a six-inch diameter, with black rubber becoming the most common material. By the 1960s, cost-saving plastic versions with generic tread designs began to emerge, though some manufacturers continued to produce rubber models that closely resembled actual tires.
