From straw to merino wool, to cotton twill - the Baseball Cap has evolved and adapted over 100 years of design. Brooklyn Excelsiors, eventually set the standard with their buttoned-top silhouette, which is synonymous with the modern cap we see today.
The BASEBALL CAP / JOLLY ROGER has been constructed in a 6-panel design from a tough and durable cotton twill cloth, selected for its sturdiness and ability to hold its shape whilst taking hard wearing on the field. Washable leather adjusters have also been fitted to ensure a perfect fit. A 90th Bombardment Group JOLLY ROGER skull emblem patch has been sewn in to the front of the crown, with JOLLY ROGER rubber printing finish the back panel.
The 90th Bombardment Group, famously known as the “Jolly Rogers”, was a distinguished U.S. Army Air Forces unit during World War II. Activated in 1942 and equipped with B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, the group comprised four squadrons, each with its own distinctive nickname and patch colour:
• 319th Bombardment Squadron, “Asterperious” – Blue
• 320th Bombardment Squadron, “Moby Dick” – Red
• 321st Bombardment Squadron, “Bombs Away” – Green
• 400th Bombardment Squadron, “The Black Pirate” – Black
Operating in the Southwest Pacific Theater under the Fifth Air Force, the 90th Bomb Group took part in critical campaigns, including the Battle of the Bismarck Sea and operations over Leyte Gulf, significantly disrupting enemy airpower and contributing to Allied victories in the region.
The group’s iconic insignia—a skull and crossed bombs—reflected their daring and precision, earning them the nickname “The Best Damn Heavy Bomb Group in the World.” Their missions and achievements left a legacy as one of the most formidable bomber groups of the war.
