The hooded sweatshirt was originally created in the 1930s by stitching hoods to existing sweatshirt designs as a functional solution for construction workers enduring freezing New York winters. It was quickly adopted by the US military for training exercises and physical education classes.

This pullover hoodie is crafted from relatively lightweight 9oz loopwheel knitted cotton in an unbrushed loopback French terry, making it more breathable than its brushed counterpart. The loopwheel fabric is produced on rare vintage machines in Wakayama, Japan, using the traditional low-tension technique that creates the distinctive stretchy quality and texture reminiscent of hand-woven textiles.

The defining feature of this sweatshirt is its custom faded wash treatment. It starts with the composition of the jersey; unlike mass-produced sweatshirts, The Real McCoy's use different yarns across the fabric layers to achieve optimal finish, density and comfort. Then, to achieve the faded appearance, the fabric undergoes a specialized washing process using natural pumice stone. Multiple rounds of custom treatments and washes create a soft, lived-in appearance with a naturally faded look, perfectly replicating the character of the best well-worn vintage sweatshirts.
