The MILITARY PRINT SWEATSHIRT / U.S. COASTGUARD ACADEMY is made from 10 oz. loopwheel-knitted cotton, featuring a brushed loopback French terry interior for added warmth and softness. Produced on vintage Tsuriami-ki machines in Wakayama, Japan, the fabric is created at an exceptionally slow pace — only one meter per hour — resulting in a uniquely stretchy, hand-woven texture and washed appearance reminiscent of vintage American sweatshirts.

The airbrushed flock print pays tribute to Objee the Black Bear, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's iconic mascot adopted in 1926. Originally brought to campus as a live cub, Objee’s name, short for "objectionable presence", reflects early resistance from the local community, yet the bear went on to become a beloved symbol of the Academy for decades.

Unlike mass-produced sweatshirts, The Real McCoy’s uses different yarns across the layers of the fabric to achieve optimal finish, density, and comfort. Like the best vintage sweatshirts, the gusset details featured here have been sewn in. While this is a time-consuming process, it adds a layer of reinforcement, prevents the neck from stretching, and acts similarly to a sweatband.

The United States Coast Guard was originally established on August 4, 1790, as the Revenue Cutter Service under the Department of the Treasury. Its mission was to enforce customs laws, prevent smuggling, and ensure maritime safety. In 1915, it merged with the United States Life-Saving Service, creating the modern U.S. Coast Guard, a military and law enforcement branch dedicated to maritime safety, security, and stewardship.

During World War II, the U.S. Coast Guard played a crucial role in protecting the U.S. coastline, maintaining navigation aids, and participating in major combat operations. Coast Guard personnel were integral in the D-Day invasion, anti-submarine warfare, and search and rescue missions, saving thousands of lives and ensuring the safe transport of troops and supplies.

After World War II, the Coast Guard adapted to new global challenges, including involvement in the Vietnam War. They conducted coastal patrols, interdiction of smuggling routes, and support operations for naval forces, proving their versatility and expertise in maritime operations.
