Taking direct inspiration from the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, the U.S.N. N-1 TROUSERS MODIFY / KHAKI are a reproduction of a rare pair of modified deck overalls within our archive. Originally issued as cold-weather overalls to be worn with the N-1 Deck Jacket, this particular pair had been cut down and repurposed into trousers for more practical, casual use.
This modern interpretation retains the military character of the original while being updated for everyday wear. The wool lining used in the original overalls has been removed for improved comfort and versatility, making them suitable for a wider range of climates. True to their naval heritage, the trousers are constructed using the same heavy-duty cotton cord cloth, often referred to as "jungle cloth", and finished with authentic components including black oxidized riveted top buttons, urea buttons, and cotton sewing thread.
Key design details such as the patch pockets have been faithfully preserved. The original N-1 overalls were introduced around 1943, during the same period as the standard-issue N-1 Deck Jacket, and served as part of a cold-weather uniform system used extensively during World War II.
