The NARROW ENGINEER BOOTS from BUCO are a careful reproduction, paying homage to the original Buco Engineer Boot, first produced in the 1940s; but more directly inspired by the improved 50s model that was characterised by their high shaft, slender foot design and separate soles.
This model is crafted from pigment-dyed, black-core Horsehide leather, a departure from previous models that used brown-core leather. A lacquer finish is applied, reflecting the processes of the era. The Narrow Engineer boots benefit from brass buckles and a copper boot shank that mimics the original design. The boots are designed to wear gracefully over time.
The origin of the Engineer Boot style remains ambiguous. However, they are generally believed to be an inventive blend of logger boots and English riding boots. This combination led to an effective work boot, initially favored in the 1930s by railroad workers who needed protection from hot coals, embers, and tools. Their popularity waned during World War II but saw a resurgence shortly after, when many veterans formed motorcycle clubs. The engineer boots became their footwear of choice, providing both comfort during rides and protection from the various moving parts of a bike.
